Napa Valley Chamber Orchestra
Bringing music to our community

Author: Personnel

  • History of the Napa Valley Chamber Orchestra

Love of playing and sharing classical music is the binding force among many musicians in the Napa Valley who were left without a home when the Napa Symphony dissolved several years ago. Lora Levin and Lois Decius, both previous members of the Symphony, decided to take matters into their own hands and the Napa Valley Chamber Orchestra was born. The goal was to make the music they loved accessible to a wide audience and keep it alive for new generations. To that end, NVCO concerts are available for free four times a year, and the musicians volunteer their time to share their love of music. Players in the Chamber Orchestra range from classically trained professional musicians to highly accomplished local amateurs.

  • The People of NVCO

Napa Valley Chamber Orchestra ’s 26 musicians are local residents who volunteer their time and talent to bring free concerts to Napa. Guest artists hosted by the orchestra include pianist Janet Guggenheim, cellists Burke Schuchmann and Isaac Pastor-Chermak, and Harpsichordist Violet Grgich. These artists, plus guest concertmasters Max Baluyev and Tammie Dyer and conductor Ann Krinitsky have enriched our musical offerings. Both seasoned professionals and experienced amateurs have an important presence in the orchestra.
